Summer Lawn Stress
High temperatures and dry conditions are bad enough for your turf, but add in the insects and diseases that summer always brings, and your lawn could be in need of some serious help.
Drought and lack of watering often lead to blueish-green coloring or footprints that remain in the turf after you’ve walked on it. If insects or diseases are present, you may also notice brown patches or chewed grass blades.
Healthy lawns are less likely to fall victim to summer stress, making proper watering, mowing and fertilization extra important in hotter weather.
Be sure that your turf gets from 1" to 1 ½" of water per week from rainfall or watering. And when sprinkling, let water soak in to a depth of 6" so that enough moisture reaches the roots.
It's also important to mow regularly with a sharp blade. You can count on Hedge To Edge to mow properly for optimum lawn health.
Finally, remember that regular applications of fertilizer from Hedge To Edge will help your turf to stand up to insects and disease while decreasing its water requirements throughout the summer months.

A Note on Lawn Fungus Disease
Any of the following symptoms may indicate the presence of fungus disease in your turf:
• Patches of silver-gray or bleached-white turf (snow mold fungus)
• A pinkish cast to your lawn (red thread fungus)
• Purplish-brown spots with lighter centers on grass blades (leaf spot fungus)
Healthy lawns have an easier time standing up to fungus diseases, so
regular fertilization, aerating and mowing with a sharp blade are
helpful (mowing with a dull blade can shred grass tips, making it
easier for fungus spores to enter the plants). It's also important to
water less often and more deeply, since fungus spores spread in water.
If fungus disease does appear, a prompt fungicide treatment from Hedge To Edge can improve your lawn's chances for recovery and
decrease the potential for long-term damage.
